? >> well, piers, as you know, there were a number of efforts before the election to get this done and there were major differences between the parties, and those parties became a big part of the conversation during the presidential debate. the president could not have been clearer that he wanted to do two things. he wanted to boost economic growth by doing things like investing in our infrastructure which used to be a bipartisan idea, but also, extending middle class tax cuts and as you said, asking the wealthiest to pay a little bit more to reduce the deficit. that was part of the conversation. so we would hope that the election would break a little bit of this logjam. obviously that hasn't happened yet. the president's put his plan on the table. i'm still very hopeful, piers, that we'll get there. i agree with you, it would be better to get there sooner rather than later. time is running out. no doubt about it. >> one of the big problems it seems to me is the relationship between john boehner and barack obama. just seems deeply flawed. they're at a party and they couldn't be bot

. >> in a few days after the election when republicans vote didn't have the president has been disbanded voters like a 44-point gap. right away they said we need to do something aggressive on immigration. but it wasn't a couple weeks. republicans already couldn't agree on what needs to be done. how do you get your own party on the same page, devout democrats? >> i disagree. i don't think that's it's happening. what happens is the concept of immigration reform is one of consensus on the details of immigration reform with every major piece of legislation. we have millions of people who come here illegally. a lot of them come to me and say we've done it the right way and we didn't pay the fees, the churchgoing may somehow affecting the legally legally it would have been faster? it didn't seem right, so people are troubled by it. that's one example of one debate we will have. there's going to be invited to bid in the democratic party. as labor unions i'm in favor of a guestworker program. they will have an internal party debates. there's no magic solution. it's important to do and i believe we can.

. >> you are okay with this. >> i hate it at princeton where i went. 155 faculty the last election gave to obama. two guys gave to romney. one was a janitor. one was a visiting lecturer. yet the education i got was very one-sided. that's the way it is. all we can do is speak out. >> bill: that's the difference between you and me. i don't want to accept it. i'm struggling for a way for the state to be fair to the taxpayer. and i think that there has to be some standards. >> there is a good way for that stop paying for any of this stuff. >> bill: then the poorer kids don't get to go to college. >> they would be so rich lots of charity. >> bill: you can't depend on that. >> tuition would be lower. >> bill: you say it would be lower but i don't think so. i think the reason the state university is in play is to give people who don't have a lot of money a chance to go to school because they can't afford princeton or harvard tuition. >> go free to prince to be, harvard. >> i don't all of this stuff is accepted. >> we are telling the truth and keeping those right wing people out. >> bill: even
